There are some pest that go into what seems like “hiding” in the colder winter season, termites are NOT one of them. Though termites more active during the warmer months of summer they are still active during the winter. With spring through summer being the “swarming” months of termites this does not mean they are gone come the colder weather.
Termites Will Find Warmth In Deeper Soil
There are certain types of termites that dig deeper for food during the colder season. Subterranean Termites will dig deeper into the ground for the warmth they need to survive. For termites that are in heated soil, near heated buildings and basements their activity may see little change at all. With the continuous warm temperatures we see here in Southern California the activity of termites stays mostly consistent throughout the year. Therefore, the eggs that the queen termite will lay should not dip too low in production, instead staying rather abundant.
Do not assume that just because the colder weather is here that the termites have gone away till next summer. Know that if a termite colony has found shelter in foundation of your home, and walls that they will not be bothered by the change in temperature.
