Termites in the Attic

Megan Pinneo

I found termites in the attic, now what?

The attic is a space that can be greatly utilized, or otherwise neglected, but what about when you finally decide to take a peak and find a swarm of flying termites! It can be a rude awakening to find termites have now taken over your attic.

How long has it been going on? Have they started a colony? There are probably quite a few questions running through your mind. Take a breath, and try not to stress. A termite infestation is what you have, but it may not go any farther than that. Sounds a bit funny to say, but let nature take its course and you will find it could all work out .

Catching termite swarmers in your attic in the heat of the day can seem pretty intimidating, but chances are they will soon die off. Termites actually die easily, and may die before they can start a new colony. There is not too much that can be done at the first point that you witness the termites flying around. Calling a local termite professional will be your absolute best option. A termite inspector can properly examine the termite problem, then be able to give the proper termite treatment recommendations. When checking back in a day or two you will most likely notice an abundance of discarded wings. Hopefully you have some good lighting that will allow you, and/ or a termite inspector so give the area a good look around. Along with the termite wings there will also be a few dead termites that you are bound to find. Routine termite inspections is going to be the best plan of action in termite defense, and protection. The termite inspector will be able to observe the area and make sure that termites have not started a colony within the walls. The best case scenario is that the termites you first saw have now died off, and failed to start a colony. If there has in fact been a termite colony that has started to form early detection by a termite inspector will help to avoid costly damage to the structure.

Avoid a termite problem with regular termite inspections.

Help avoid termites getting into your attic in the first place by sealing off any cracks in the foundation of your home. Ask yourself, how did they get inside in the first place? Schedule a termite inspection with a termite professional to help avoid a serious termite problem. The plus side is you have likely caught the termite infestation in its early stages and can stop the termites from further damage. Be proactive when it comes to termites and speak with a termite professional. Temecula’s Black Knight Termite Control has over 20 years of termite and pest control experience, with many options in termite treatment services.
