Common Pests in the Garage

We use the garage to typically store items, such as our vehicle, sports equipment, seasonal items, the things we do not need to get to on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it is also the perfect place for rodents, and insects to take shelter. With the holidays fast approaching most people are using the garage a little more often, moving storage boxes to and from the garage, and into their home. Tis the season to unpack the Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas decorations.

While we bring in the holiday cheer let’s not bring in the holiday pests with it.

Pest will be hiding all throughout your garage items, in places you least suspect. Keeping your garage neat, and tidy all year long is the best way to avoid unwanted pest infestations any time of the year. Especially if you have an attached garage leading straight to your home, cleanliness is even more crucial. With the convenience of an attached garage, pests also have the same convenience that you do, with easy access in to the home. Winter is here and the cold weather is driving rodents, and insects into homes and garages all over Riverside County.

In your garage you likely will have an abundance of spiders and webs throughout. You may also have a mouse or two, but let’s hope that is not the case. Older garages built mainly of wood, located in San Diego County will be at higher risk of termite infestation.

Pests In The Garage And What To Do About Them

SPIDERS- The Pest Control we have today that is used around the home actually drives spiders into garages where they can have better luck feeding themselves. Spiders will waste no time spinning their webs, and laying eggs.

Routinely doing a walk through of your garage and clearing out any webs will help reduce the amount of spiders in the garage. Rodent Control and Defense Service

RATS AND MICE-
The cold is driving rodents indoors even more than usual. Rats will find shelter in storage boxes, walls, and even under the hood of your car. Talk about a dangerous situation, rodents will often chew through wiring of a car. Periodically check under the hood of your car for chewed through wires!

Setting mouse traps will help minimize rodents in the garage. Mice can fit through holes as small as a quarter, properly sealing ANY and ALL openings leading into the garage is vital in stopping a rodent problem from happening. Rodent Control Service

TERMITES- Elimination of moisture and replacing any old, rotting wood is alway recommended in proper maintenance of any structure, and will also help avoid a Termite Problem. Garages can have a termite infestation going on for long periods of time without anyone knowing. Having routine annual Termite Inspections preformed on your property is the best way to prevent against termite infestations. CRICKETS- Though crickets are more common in the warmer month to try to invade your garage, they can also be known to do it in the winter. Crickets can be more annoying than anything by damaging fabrics and clothing. Again, sealing any openings is key in avoiding crickets from entering. Also, keeping your garage door shut as much as possible.

SILVERFISH- A silverfish Infestation can grow quickly with the female laying up to three eggs per day. Eggs can be hidden in cracks, and under boxes. Once silverfish gain access into your garage they will feed on almost anything, From glue, clothing, paper items, and food items. Silverfish are especially easy to be brought inside your home by way of storage bins. Glue boards can be an easy way to help minimize the silverfish population in both in your garage and home.
