Office Manager for Black Knight Pest Control - Melissa
Join me as I get a one on one interview with ever so delightful Melissa, as she steps out from behind the desk. It goes without saying that the Black Knight office wouldn’t run the same without her. Melissa is one of the key components of the Black Knight’s core team.
I asked Melissa how long she has been with the company knowing that she has been apart of the Black Knight team for quite some time.
“I started in September of 2002 and I worked for 5 years, then I took some time off to tend to my family and kids. I was asked if I would like to come back to Black Knight, and here I am!”
Next, I asked Melissa how she got her start at Black Knight Termite and Pest Control.
“I started working at Black Knight to help with the finances at home, and to help bring in a second income. Initially I started as an Administrative Assistant and I moved up to Bookkeeping and to what I am now, Office Manager.”
Since Melissa has been with the company since 2002 I asked how she has seen Black Knight grow over the years.
“Black Knight has grown tremendously since I got my start! It has gone from one person in the office to four people. We have grown from one Pest Technician to a Pest Supervisor, Salesman, and four Pest Technicians. We have also grown from two Crew Workers to one Supervisor and four Crew Workers. We now have two full time Termite Inspectors versus the one. We have a professional to run the Social Media aspect of the company. We even added a Thermal Heat division, with two Technicians, and an Office Admin. Jim’s daughter Megan also got involved and is now part owner. We have definitely grown and are continuing to grow as we add new staff and new customers.”
Over the years I asked Melissa what has become her favorite part of the job?
“My favorite part of working with Black Knight is the family experience. It is not like working for a big corporation where you are a number. Here your opinion matters and everyone works together.”
A question I like to ask every Black Knight Team member is, what is your most disliked pest?
“I absolutely hate snakes. I will walk the other way.”
Lastly, I asked Melissa to tell me about her life outside of work. How do you enjoy spending your time? Melissa’s answer was as sweet as she is!
“I am 28 years happily married with four adult children (3 boys and 1 daughter) and a new grandmother to my handsome grandson. I spend almost all of my time with my family or on the phone talking to them. I enjoy quality time with all of them. I am happiest when we are altogether. Unfortunately three of my children have moved out of state. When I am not with them I enjoy long walks and my church life.”
Melissa was a JOY to interview. I am so pleased to start off the New Year with this one on one.
